This piece developed from my own thoughts regarding the expectations of women. The general message that women need to be one thing or another is simply disproved by the daily life that women lead. We have to do it all. It is our nature to do and be multiple things at once, shifting beautifully between our characteristics. We are soft and strong, fierce and empathetic, nurturing warriors. We have the ability to be friend and coworker and wife and mother all at once.
Rather than trying to put us into one box or another, society must understand the duality of woman is something to be cherished. As we understand this, so will we thrive.

"To Know Womanhood Is To Know Waiting" 48x60"

We wait for so much. As girls, we wait for our bodies to tell us we’re women. Once we’re women, we wait monthly to be reminded of this truth. We wait for opportunities. For that boy to tell us he’s interested, for that man to call us back, for the love of our lives to finally ask the question that will change our future. We wait for promotions, to be paid what we’re worth. For a friend to call us back- with her good news, bad news, any news. For that pregnancy test to be positive. Or negative. We wait as a body grows inside our own, we wait for the birth of a child, a birth into our own new selves. We wait until our bodies are ready to grow strong again, to go back to our lives. Then we wait for the next one. This piece reflects my own struggle with waiting.

"Transformation of A Lifetime" 48x60"

This piece was created in the later months of my first pregnancy. I was doing all I could to prepare for what everyone told me would be the greatest transformation of my life. I read books, did mindset work, meditated in the core of my being as my belly poked out of the bath water. It was only then that I realized no one could ever truly prepare for a transformation like motherhood.

There is a light inside each of us. It was placed there on purpose, and I believe it is the goal of our life to find ways to allow that light to seep out of us and ooze onto the world around us.

I have found that my own “yes” holds power. Our decision to open up, to say “yes” in a certain direction quite literally opens doors in that same direction. As we commit where we feel called, God will reveal to us the doors that have been open all along.

This piece is a raw drawing of the war inside many of us as we discover who we are in any given season of life. This identity changes so much over the course of our life. I’ve found that many of us are resisting who we were made to be on a given day simply because it seems to contradict who we were yesterday. This piece was created to give value to that struggle.
