This piece is part of my collection of paintings title "The Breaking". In this collection, I've explored the themes of heartbreak and disappointment as it relates to the female experience of betrayal. I have layered vibrant abstract backgrounds with bold figures and portraits to reflect the chaos and paradox of emotions and thoughts that swirl through our beings as we experience such a life changing event. The raw marks and unfinished style of the drawings mirror the raw states of our hearts when we experience hard things. Things change us. We have such little control over what happens to us, but we have all the power in the world to determine how those events shape us.

This piece was created in the midst of extreme emotional pain-- the type of pain that makes your knees buckle and makes it hard to eat for days on end.

It didn't happen immediately, but as I sifted through this pain for months, I began to discover that there were moments of peace in the midst of my pain. These moments of peace became my "rest stops" int he journey of healing.

A flower blooming next to my front step. Watching a stranger hug someone they love as I sip my latte at the local coffee shop. The sound of my daughter's feet running towards me as I walk in the door.

Even in the deepest pain, peace is available to us all.
